This project approached the challenge of a long, narrow site oriented north toward the street with a fresh perspective. The design focused on a mirrored layout to ensure each dwelling offers comfortable, light-filled spaces suitable for coastal living. Many attempts at suburban densification have proven unsuccessful, often resulting in grey, boxy structures that prioritise maximum yield over street and environmental integration.
The internal living areas are arranged around a versatile courtyard with adjustable openings, allowing the space to adapt seasonally and accommodate various daily activities—from returning home from the beach, enjoying weekends with family, or finding a quiet spot to read. This approach successfully created two practical and inviting homes that enhance neighbourhood appeal and align well with the local lifestyle.
